Healthy On-the-Go Breakfasts

If you’re like us, your mornings are probably spent running around with a toothbrush hanging out of your mouth as you try to find the missing mate to your one black, peep-toed pump. Finding time for a wholesome, made-from-scratch morning meal? Yeah right. Instead, enjoy one of these quick, easy breakfasts as you wait for the train or sit at your desk.

Fruit Salad and a Bagel
There is nothing more refreshing than a fresh fruit salad at 8:00 a.m. However, you probably don’t have the time or energy to wash, peel and chop at such an ungodly hour of the day. So, for a delicious, nutritious fruit salad, prepare the ingredients the night before. For fiber and substance, spread some low-fat cream cheese onto a whole grain bagel. Enjoy this delicious breakfast as you read through e-mails at your desk and make your coworkers jealous.

Egg & Cheese Breakfast Sandwich
Sure, you could pick up cheese-filled, grease-soaked Egg McMuffin from the McDonald’s drive-through “ but don’t. Instead, add a fried egg and a couple thin slices of cheese to a toasted English muffin for an equally delicious breakfast sandwich with a fraction of the fat. This protein-rich egg and cheese breakfast sandwich will keep you feeling full until lunchtime. And, best of all, they only take one hand to eat, leaving your other hand free to hail a cab!

Yogurt Parfait
If you’re not a breakfast person, try something light like a yogurt parfait. Mix a bowl of plain or vanilla yogurt with a handful of flavorful fruits like strawberries, raspberries or blueberries, and top with crunchy granola. Yogurt parfaits are an easy, healthy and dessert-worthy breakfast that you can quickly throw together as you head out the door. Who knows, you may even become a breakfast person.

Bowl of Cereal
Pouring yourself a bowl of cereal in the morning doesn’t have to include a cartoon rabbit or anything marshmallow-y. In fact, it shouldn’t. For a healthy, ultra-quick breakfast, try a bowl of MultiGrain Cheerios or Rice Krispies with skim milk or soymilk. Top with slices of strawberry or banana and you’ve got a delicious breakfast you can eat in the time it takes to read your e-mails. To make this a truly on-the-go meal, grab one of those portable, individual cups of cereal and a small carton of milk.

Smoothies
One of the easiest and tastiest ways to get a full range of food groups in the morning is by blending up a fruit smoothie. Blend half a banana, a handful of strawberries, a cup of milk and a couple spoonfuls of plain yogurt in a convenient Magic Bullet cup and sip away as you sit on the streetcar.  You can even add protein powder to amp up the nutrition. Homemade smoothies are the ultimate on-the-go breakfast to kick-start your morning. Plus, you’ll look way healthier and way savvier than all those girls sucking back their sugar-filled Booster Juice!
