Fashion Trends Men Hate (and some they love!)

The expression girls dress for other girls has never been truer than in the age of harem pants and wooden clogs. Sure enough, many of the trends we hail as high fashion are downright unattractive to your average guy. Here is a short list of some man-repelling trends to stay away from “ as well as a few to try!

Hate: Huge Sunglasses
Alien-like and bug-eyed are just a few of the phrases that men use to describe the oversized sunglasses that we consider chic. Men find them frightening and say that they are not likely to approach a woman that looks like a giant fly. When purchasing eyewear, stay away from anything circular and shiny.

Hate: Uggs
They may be comfortable but they’re right up there with Birkenstocks and Crocs, men say. Bulky, salt-stained, smelly and usually paired with ill-fitting sweatpants, Ugg boots are one of the most hated trends of all time. According to men everywhere, they are just plain Ugg-ly. (It was too easy.)

Hate: Empire Waists
We call them empire-waist shirts. Men call them those pregnancy tops. Sure, they accentuate the bust but they also make you look as if you are expecting. If your shirt could just as easily be worn by a mother-to-be, perhaps its time to find something a little more form-fitting.

Hate: Leggings
When worn alone, leggings reveal every lump, roll and dimple. They expose panty lines and, depending on the opacity, sometimes even the panties themselves. Leggings leave little up the imagination regardless of how toned your tush may be. All in all, guys say they just don’t find leggings attractive. And patterned? Forget it.

Hate: High-Waisted Pants
They elongate your butt, ride up your crotch and make you look like Madonna circa 1985. Or a soccer mom. No guy wants to be reminded of his mom one a first date. High-waisted jeans, whether shorts or pants, are about as unflattering and unsexy as it gets, guys say, so stick with low-rise.

Love: Dresses
Not too slouchy, not too tight. No club-wear, but no Grandma frocks either. It’s simple, really: Men love women in sexy, simple dresses. Anything that shows a little leg and hints at a woman’s curves, men say, is the best.

Love: Leather Jackets
Guys love girls with a bit of inner badass and leather jackets are just that. When opting to rock a leather jacket keep it cropped, slim and stud-free. Leather jackets may be sexy but nobody wants to date a Hells Angel.

Love: Yoga Pants
This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise but men love yoga pants. And, quite frankly, so do we. Unlike most leggings, yoga pants make your butt and thighs look flawless. So in addition to flaunting your Lululemons at the gym, feel free to wear them around the grocery store, the bank and the post office.

I am very happy that someone sees the humor in all this – and I hope that the above comment comes from a man……

I had to laugh when I seen the Ugg boots paragraph especially the part that said “usually paired will sweatpants” because that is what I always wear. I always hated ugg boots and couldnt believe people payed lots of money for that brand, I however have a cheap pair of knock-offs that I scruff around with…and I realized why people love them…they ARE comfy, its just like wearing slippers all the time and they are so easy to slip on and off…not too go for the weather though not one bit waterproof.

I’m not pregnant, but I do have a bit of a stomach, and I’d rather not wear the slim fitted shirts that all the stores wear- I’d probably still look pregnant.

Erica Scime, you are pretty much bang on here.
As a hetero male I have been complaining about these female fashion trends for some time now. They are brutal, and not flattering to women. It always amuses me that when I comment about how terrible Uggs look or empire waist dresses, women always feel compelled to argue why they are indeed attractive, and will somehow convince me otherwise.
