The world of dating can be a tricky place. We don’t have to tell you that. But it doesn’t have to be a minefield if you play it smart. Dating intelligently is easier then you may think and we’ve pulled some suggestions together to help you along the way:

Date outside your prescribed box:
The old notion that we all have a ‘type’ is bogus. Do yourself a favour and jump out of the box you may have painted around yourself and meet someone different from the usual. Guaranteed it will open up your world.

Balance feelings with practicality:
We get that finding love is fraught with blinders that prevent you from seeing what everyone else sees so clearly. The irony is, we actually choose love and before you do, think about whether the budding relationship makes sense for you, long-term.

Keep your eyes open:
Maya Angelou once said, “The first time someone shows you who they are, believe them.” A golden nugget from a wise woman. Generally, in the first date or two, people tell you who they are, consciously or not. Take their word for it and lose the illusion that you might be able to change things down the road. You won’t.

Stay positive:
We all know someone like this: a friend experiences a negative situation and suddenly the world has conspired to work against them. Don’t fall into that easy trap. Your thoughts have an uncanny way of dictating your reality so stay positive and hopeful. It’s far better than the alternative.

This isn’t a job search...
so don’t treat it as such. Try to change your perspective and approach dating from the point of view of getting to know people. You don’t have to figure out if it’s going to last forever, so put your checklist back in your purse and enjoy the experience for what it offers.
