Remember the time the people of North America banded together to sign numerous petitions and create an enormous buzz in hopes of cementing TV legend Betty White as a future host of SNL?  Well, it happened, and as of yesterday, Rose Nylund will be the oldest host of the long-running series in the history of time.  (Did I make it seem more important than it actually is?  Because frankly, that’s impossible.)

The 88-year-old actress confirmed her appearance to People Magazine on Monday, expressing her dismay in her trademark self-deprecating (and endearing) fashion: “I don’t know how or why, but it’s been wonderful”.  (Newsflash:  Betty White, it’s because you’re awesome and the world loves you.)

The best part of this situation (other than the fact that Betty White is amazing) is that it goes to show that Saturday Night Live not only seems to stay in touch with its audiences (since public support of White as host was off the charts), but that young or old, age is clearly not a factor.  (Meaning?  Taylor Lautner’s hosting stint was simply because he was popular – not because he’s been cited as a comedic genius.)
