A few weeks ago, we were gushing over Whitney Port's trendy top knot, and this weekend she wowed in Toronto at the MMVAs with her cascade of (frizz-free!) curls and fresh-faced makeup.
I happened to bump into The City star at an MMVA after party and snag this gorgeous photo (thanks to Göt2B for the party invite!). She was there looking super cozy and in love with boyfriend Ben Nemtin, who stars on MTV The Buried Life.
Two things about this photo:
First, it was a total paparrazzi moment, à la TMZ. I'm sure Whitney just wanted to party and not have random people asking for her pic. But I was that girl. I asked, she obliged, I snapped it and voilà! Pretty good for an amateur shot, right?
Second, it was taken at 1AM. Let me tell you, it was sweltering in that party. I was in full beauty meltdown mode: My hair was a hot mess and makeup was looking like a BP oil slick. Yet, Whitney looked 100% polished.
I had to get the scoop on how she stayed perfect into the wee hours, so I asked her talented beauty team for the eve (Kristjan Hayden from Civello Salons in Toronto and MAC Senior Artist Jane McKay,) how they got her look. Thanks for the details, Kristjan and Jane!
Kristjan Hayden on how to get her frizz-free waves:
"I blowdried Whitney's hair from wet using a boar bristle brush and a fairly new product from Aveda called Smooth Infusion Glossing Straightener - it is amazing for controlling frizz and also for blowdrying hair straight and smooth. Once her hair was dry, I curled all it with an FHI Flat Iron - I curled it in big sections and directed the curl away from her face to create that super soft, flowing wave. Next I brushed through all the curls to soften even more, and set it with the new Aveda "Control Force" hairspray - coincidentally launched in Canada the same day as the MMVAs! This hairspray is amazing because it is a super firm hold aerosol with a net zero effect on the environment. A firm hold hairspray is key in controlling frizz in wavy hair - hair frizzes up when it moves around too much and when it lacks moisture."

Jane McKay on how to get her makeup (all products are M.A.C):
"At the MMVAs, Whitney rocked the red carpet with glowing skin, subtly lined eyes and a neutral lip. To get her radiant skin, I used Strobe Cream, followed by Care Blends Essential Oils, then the Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder to maximize its staying power. On her cheeks, I highlighted her cheekbones with Iridescent Loose Powder in Silver Dusk and gave her a slight flush with Mineralize Blush in Dainty. For a subtly rich look on the eyes, I used Omega and Woodwinked eye shadows, lined the upper lash line with Blacktrack Fluidline and Eye Kohl in Smolder. I gave her amazing lashes a boost by applying #7 individual false lashes and topping them off with Opulash mascara in Bad Bad Black. For a nude lip, I added Cremesheen Glass in Boy Bait – a makeup artist fave!"
What do you think of Whitney's look?
I. Want. To. Be. Whitney. Port.
Is that wrong?
Awesome get, Jill -- AWEsome.
I think Whitney Port's hair looks beautiful. Her curls look so flowing, light and smooth, the way hair should look. Whitney's hair crowns her with a soft lovely look!
