Michelle Williams usually prefers to stay out of the limelight, but when the indie darling does get glammed up, she never disappoints. Williams debuted a chic, short and cute pixie cut while promoting her new film, Blue Valentine, alongside co-star Ryan Gosling in Cannes.
Williams is the latest starlet to make the cut for summer (Carey Mulligan, Agyness Deyn and Hayden Panettiere also recently went short), but it's not the first time that the beauty has played around with a pixie. In 2007, she had a crop top reminiscent of Mia Farrow in Rosemary's Baby. This time around though, it's much fresher and cooler with a sweeping fringe that's a bit longer in front and cropped shorter in the back.
If you go short for summer, follow these tips:
1. You never want it to be styled too prim and proper. Shorter hair looks modern when it's roughed up, with a bit of texture. Use a bit of styling putty on your fingertips to bring out "piecey"-ness in the cut.
2. Play with your part. Williams switches it up from a deep side part to a zig-zag part; Hayden Panettiere will often wear hers slicked straight back
3. Short hair really allows you to show off your skin and the shape of your face, so play up your cheekbones with a shimmery bronzer or highlighter.
