Editor’s Picks: Hair Care Products I Can’t Live Without

My hair has always been something I’ve fussed over too much. I have long thick Indian hair that was passed down to me from my grandmother. Growing up I never cut it. At one point it, in first grade, it almost touched the floor. But, since high school it has been through the ringer. I’ve jumped on every hair trend from cornrows to ombre. All that attention has caused my hair to have a mind of its own.

I am so jealous of those girls who can just wash and go. If I wash and go, I am left with a big frizzy mess that isn’t curly or straight. What does that mean? Every morning I spend at least an hour blow-drying, straightening or curling my hair, then applying product to make it stay put. Because of this, I have become a hair care product connoisseur.

I recently took a trip to The Beauty Supply Outlet on a search for some hair care products that would help tame my tresses. The staff there were so helpful and extremely knowledgeable. They pointed me in the right direction and gave me some great tips too. After that trip I’ve been hooked on all the items I picked up on my haul.

Here are my top hair care picks from The Beauty Supply Outlet that I literally can’t live without:

For Itchy and dry scalp…

Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Hair and Scalp Treatment ($18.85)

All week I style my hair to for work and often on the weekends, I use the downtime to allow my hair to “relax”. I’ll typically do a hair mask, but lately my scalp has been really itchy and dry. I decided to try Paul Mitchell’s Tea Tree line because I heard that the tea tree oil has a soothing effect on the scalp. That is exactly true with this product. Massage it into your scalp for five minutes and rinse out. You’ll feel tingling from the tea tree oil, peppermint and lavender, while they moisturize and invigorate your scalp and hair.

When you don’t have time to wash…

Alterna Bamboo Style Cleanse Extend Dry Shampoo ($24)

I bought this product after hearing that it was the most popular Dry Shampoo at The Beauty Supply Outlet. I haven’t had much success with Dry Shampoos because I have very dark hair and you can often see a white dust with these products. With the Bamboo Style Cleanse Extend there was no white dust and it smelled so delicious. Immediately after use I had body and that greasy feeling was gone. A plus, this product is free of talc, parabens, gluten, sodium chloride, phthalates and synthetic colour.

For frizzy days…

Schwarzkopf Professional OSIS+ Magic Finish Anti-Frizz Shine Serum ($20)

I’ve been using this product for a year now. Which for me is a big deal. I get to test a lot of products for work and when something lasts that long without ever getting replaced, it says something! I’ll typically use this anti-frizz shine serum as the last step after I’ve straightened or curled my hair. It tames all the fly-aways and makes my dry ends look shiny and healthy. It isn’t oily, which a lot of other shine products are. It also absorbs fast and has lasting results, without weighing my hair down.

For more manageable hair…

Moroccanoil Smoothing Lotion (Coming in September)

I was lucky enough to try this products in advance (I’ve got hookups!) and I am addicted. It is coming to your local Beauty Supply Outlet in September. The entire new smoothing line is amazing, but what this product does is make your entire styling process so much easier. You pump a few dollops into your hands and apply it to your hair wet. It makes the tangles disappear, causing your hair to be so much more manageable for your blowout and heat styling tools. The argan oil, argan butter, Vitamin E and essential fatty acids are a dream combination, giving you the smoothest, silkiest hair.

The ultimate everything product…

It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-in Product ($19.95)

This was recommended to me on my latest visit to The Beauty Supply Outlet. This leave-in literally does everything. It repairs damaged hair, adds shine, controls frizz, products hair colour, detangles, prevents split ends, stops breakage, makes your hair silky, gives you volume and is a heat protector. You spray it on damp hair before blow drying. This product is so effective that they created a whole “It’s a 10” line of other products because of its popularity. For twenty bucks, it is a total no brainer.
