In every generation, there are women who radiate classic beauty. Elegant powerhouses who make the art of flawless hair and makeup look effortless; their natural beauty became their trademark. The iconic beauties of the 20th century ran the gamut from ladies of the silver screen to regal radiance. Now the buck’s been passed to their next generation counterparts. Here, we round up the classic beauties of our time.
A nibble here, a lick there, and your sexual frustrations are solved. The solution isn’t a new sex trick pulled from the pages of explicitly-detailed women’s magazines. In fact, it isn’t new at all. Libido- or performance-enhancing foods, or aphrodisiacs, were first used for sexual enhancement by the ancient Greeks. The word aphrodisiac actually stems from the lusty goddess of love in Greek mythology, Aphrodite. Thousands of years later, aphrodisiacs are still used in the hope that they’ll lend some of their namesake’s potent sex appeal and appetite to their consumers.
Big bags are finally cooling off. Sure, the everything-but-the-kitchen-sink totes that have ruled with fashionable hoarders (i.e., most women) for the past few years will always be around. Like an irritating uncle with a penchant for free hors d’oeuvres or a perpetually leaky faucet, they’re hard to shake once they’ve been in your life for so long. But this year, small bags are stepping up to the plate to fill our big-bag voids (figuratively, if not physically). Read on for our favourite picks for summer.
Baring more skin in summer is usually something we look forward to, as it means warmer temperatures. But if you’re carrying extra weight, more revealing clothing can be a point of insecurity. You shouldn’t have to resort to covering up – who wants to be perma-sweaty in the summer heat? At the start of the year, the American Council on Exercise (ACE) released its top fitness trends for 2011. Here, we’ve rounded up our five favourites to inspire and help you get fit this summer.
From colourful cocktails to lip-lickin’ lagers, happy hour gets a little happier when drinks menus go seasonal. We picked mixologist Natalie Bovis’s brain to get inspired. Also known as The Liquid Muse, beverage consultant Bovis is also the author of Preggatinis: Mixology for the Mom-To-Be and The Bubbly Bride: Your Ultimate Wedding Cocktail Guide. Read on for her take on this summer’s hottest drink trends and a signature recipe.
There are currently few privileges in the public eye that overshadow being invited to the royal wedding. With Brit celeb royalty on the RSVP like Elton John and David and Victoria Beckham, the guest list is the hottest place to be across the pond. But that invitation comes with rules – some outright, some assumed. Wedding planners and etiquette advisors gave guests some friendly advice on how to behave on Will & Kate’s big day. Read on to see how our favourite guidelines stack up to wedding etiquette in the real world.
Kate Middleton catapulted to fame when she started dating Prince William. But during their long courtship she’s built a niche of her own as a beauty and fashion icon. Famous for her natural beauty just slightly accented, Kate isn’t one to pile on the makeup. In her capacity as a beauty icon, Kate always manages an effortlessly “done” look without falling into overdone territory. Here, our favourite classic Kate beauty looks and how to re-create them.
The future king of England, Prince William, is gorgeous and rich. If that trifecta weren’t enough to make him one of the most sought-after bachelors pre-Kate, the killer boyfriend skills we witnessed once they started dating effectively sealed his dreamboat status. Here, we recap our favourite traits any quality boyfriend can learn from Will (if he doesn’t already have them!).
Bathing suit season’s coming! But instead of horrified anticipation, we’d like to bring a little excitement to the prospect. Leave your lumps and bumps woes in the dust and revel in these bangin’ bathing suits. We asked luxury swimwear designer Cheryl Gushue for her thoughts on bathing suit trends for summer to dig up some inspiration. Gushue’s the creator and designer of Gushue Swim. She’s currently working on the launch of her new line Cascata Blu with a new business partner. Read on for our five favourite Gushue swim trends for summer.
Winter’s typically known for being chapped lip season, but that doesn’t mean you’re home free once the temperature bumps up. Summer has its own potential for drying out lips with heightened sun exposure and scorching temperatures. Any beauty junkie worth her salt knows not to skimp on a lip treatment, but you may not know what to look for. Be choosy about what goes into your lip treatment and you’ll enjoy soft lips all summer long.
